Warren Worthington III, better known as Angel, soars into Marvel: Crisis Protocol, bringing his high-flying heroics to the tabletop. As one of the founding members of the X-Men, Angel is renowned for his large white-feathered wings, which allow him to perform aerial acrobatics. These wings can fold into a small size, enabling him to keep them hidden under his clothing. Angel began his superhero career by rescuing people from danger and fighting crime independently until Charles Xavier discovered him and recruited him into the X-Men.
Angel: The Winged Wonder
Warren Worthington III began his journey as a superhero by rescuing those in peril & combating crime on his own. His life took a pivotal turn when he was discovered by Charles Xavier, who recognized his potential & recruited him into the X-Men. Taking on the name Angel, Warren embraced his role as a hero, using his abilities to protect the innocent & fight for justice.
In Marvel: Crisis Protocol, Angel is represented as a Threat Value 3 character. He boasts a modest stat line, featuring 5 Stamina on both his healthy & injured sides, along with defenses of 3 Physical, 3 Energy, & 3 Mystic. His Medium Speed & the Flight Innate superpower allow him to navigate the battlefield with agility. While he possesses a Healing Factor (1) that grants him some extra survivability, Angel is not designed to be a frontline brawler.
Aerial Assault: Flyby Attack
Angel’s signature move, the Flyby attack, showcases his aerial prowess. This attack allows him to swoop through enemy groups, generating Power with each hit. With a range of 3, Angel can effectively engage multiple opponents. After completing the final attack, he is placed within Range 1 of the last target, setting him up for future actions.
This ability works seamlessly with his Hostile Takeover Reactive superpower, which triggers when he begins a move action. For 2 Power, Hostile Takeover allows Angel to push a nearby enemy character toward him a Short distance after the move action is completed. This combination of attacks & movement makes Angel a versatile character capable of disrupting enemy plans.
Strategic Flexibility: Air Lift
Angel’s second Reactive superpower, Air Lift, also activates when he begins a move action. However, unlike Hostile Takeover, Air Lift allows him to place an allied character within Range 2 of its current location. This placement does not have to be toward Angel’s final position, providing significant flexibility in repositioning his team.
Both Reactive superpowers can be utilized during a single move action, enabling clever tactics such as removing an enemy from an objective while placing an ally in their stead or bringing an enemy & ally closer together for follow-up actions.
Avenging Angel: A Powerful Attack
Angel’s second attack, Avenging Angel, pays homage to his original superhero name. This powerful attack boasts a Strength of 7 & has the potential to Stun the target while also allowing him to throw most enemies a Short distance. This attack not only showcases his combat capabilities but also reinforces his role as a protector of the innocent.
Team Tactic Cards
Angel comes equipped with several Team Tactic Cards, including the Ultimate Sacrifice card. This Reactive card allows Angel to take attacks meant for nearby allies for 2 Power. If the attack results in Dazing or KOs Angel, the character originally targeted will remove 3 Damage & all of their special conditions, showcasing Angel’s commitment to protecting his teammates.
Archangel: The Harbinger of Death
As Archangel, Warren gains a new set of abilities that enhance his offensive capabilities. Retaining his Flight & Medium Speed, Archangel becomes a more aggressive character, delivering multiple special conditions. As a Threat Value 4 character, his stats are improved, featuring 5 Stamina on his Healthy side & 6 on his Injured side, along with enhanced defenses of 4 Physical, 3 Energy, & 4 Mystic.
Archangel’s attacks are also upgraded. His Razor Wing Strike has a Strength of 5 & generates Power based on the damage dealt. This attack features two triggered effects: Toxic Flechettes, which inflict the Bleed or Poison special condition when a Wild is rolled, & Overwing, which allows Archangel to be placed within Range 1 of the target if a Critical is rolled.
His second attack, Avatar of Death, costs 3 Power & has a Strength of 7. This attack features the Neurotoxin rule, which can give the target the Stagger special condition. If the target has both Bleed & Poison, Neurotoxin can even grant the target an Activated token instead!
Durability & Defense
While Archangel may not be the most durable character at his Threat Value, he possesses superpowers that help him engage in combat & remain in the fight. His Charge superpower costs 2 Power & allows him to make a move action followed by an attack action, enabling him to strike effectively. When defending, Archangel can utilize his metallic wings as a shield. The Wing Shield superpower triggers when he is targeted by a Physical or Energy attack or when he needs to make a dodge roll. For 2 Power, he adds 2 dice to his defense or dodge roll, enhancing his survivability.
As the Chosen of Apocalypse, Archangel can change one die result to a Hit for each Wild he rolls when attacking, giving his attacks extra punch & reinforcing his fearsome reputation as Death.
